Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, announced today (via The Loop) that the iPhone 5 launch in China has been more than successful, seeing over 2 million sales in its first three days on the market:
“Customer response to iPhone 5 in China has been incredible, setting a new record with the best first weekend sales ever in China. China is a very important market for us and customers there cannot wait to get their hands on Apple products.”
If there is any doubt whether China is important to Apple’s future, these numbers should settle things. As one of the most important emerging consumer markets in the world, China represents one of the greatest opportunities for Apple’s continued dominance of the smartphone market, and judging by the reception of the iPhone 5, Cook and the gang in Cupertino are well on their way.
